Personal Significance

Many people wonder if the bigger question of the meaning of life isn't lost in the reality that their life is so small and insignificant as not to make any difference in the big picture.

Not so.

Your life makes a difference. Unavoidably. If you've not watched Frank Capria's It's a Wonderful Life please do so.

The only question is "what kind of difference will your life make?"

Millions are suffering from basic "nothingness." For different reasons in different places life has become meaningless. For too many of the human family the purpose of life means one thing: staying alive. In hunger and need and unemployment the bitter struggle never ends - to find food, clothing and a home for the family. Yet the question comes: "is this all life means - a bare struggle for existence?"

For those who have all they need, there is deep confusion about what everything is for. Amid affluence, the haunting words of Jesus remind us that "Life is more than food. A man's life does not consist in the stock of things he possesses."

Life can so easily become like a broken string of beads lying scattered on the floor. What then is the answer to the question of the meaning of life? What purpose has each day as it comes? What are the long range goods of existence? For I am sure the answer is somewhere, the answer available to us.

There is ultimately a single answer to the meaning of life. It is to come to know God. It is to explore his nature and purpose. It is to think his thoughts after him. It is to experience the love, the challenge, the presence of God. It is to be reconciled to God. God alone gives the meaning of life. A godless people know only the meaninglessness of life.

One may ask, 'how do I come to know God?' 'What does it mean to give our lives in trust to him? What brings us to his side?' The purpose of this site is to answer these questions.

Remember this: God loves you and has made a way for you to know him and a love that is beyond any other! God loves you and wants you to experience his peace and life abundant and eternal life. The purpose of God for you is to know him.

"We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 5:1)

Jesus says, "I have come that they may have life in abundance." (John 10:10)

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whoever believes in him should no perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)

Why don't most people have this peace and abundant life that God planned for us to have?

God created us in his own image to have an abundant life. He did not make us as robots to automatically love and respond to him. God gave us a will and a freedom of choice. We chose to disobey God and go our own way. We will make this choice often. Choosing this way results in separation from God.

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23)

People try to bridge this gap created by our turning from God in various ways including philosophies and man-made religions...

"There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death." (Proverbs 14:12)

..."But our iniquities have separated us from our God; our sins have hidden his face from us, so that he will not hear us." (Isaiah 59:2)

Jesus died on the cross and the third day rose from the dead. He paid the penalty for our sin and bridged the gap between God and people.

"Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring us to God." (1 Peter 3:18)

"God demonstrated his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)

"There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Jesus Christ" (I Timothy 2:5)

Jesus invites us to receive him as Lord and Saviour and follow him always.

"To all who received him, to those who believe in his name, he gave them the power to become children of God" (John 1:12)

"Here I am. I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and be with you and you will me." (Revelation 3:20)

If you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that God raised him (Jesus) from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9)

If you've made the decision to receive and follow Christ, share that decision with someone else who knows and follows him.

The heart of the matter is this: to be a Christian is to be loyal to a person named Jesus Christ.

The difference comes as we follow Christ. Then as we follow him, we come to know more fully who he really is. As we move through life following Christ, our life comes to have the meaning and purpose for which we've been created. We discover our mission. And human history is altered...
